I’m an 8-foot giant

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Ok, I prescribed a new pair of spectacles and lo and behold, it took a day for it to get ready! They told me my lenses had to be custom made because the powers are not of the normal stock. Anyway, the length of the delivery is not what I’m about to write today. Today it’s about being….

Tall.

Now everyone experienced a sense of distortion when wearing a new pair of specs, this orientation is normal due to the brain’s interpretation is a bit screwed up and need time to adjust the sight to what will be percieved as”normal”. What I’m going through right now….

Is NOT normal. I doubt I can drive wearing this pair for a couple of days at least. I feel like 8 feet because the ground seem so distant from me. In fact, the first few steps I took right out of the store wearing this thing made my brain scream “I’m about to fall a horrible death! Don’t take another step!” At that point of time, I know I was screwed. My distance judgment was as messed up as Bill Clinton’s and Hugh Grant’s affair. It was horrifying.

I’m not surprised if I develope a fear of heights after this little incident, where I almost tripped on the sidewalk without stumbling over anything other than my screaming brain. In fact, this perfectly square computer is taking on a trapezoidal shape that changes angles depending on how I look at it. Ahhhh mou… hetaksou dana…. saitei…

But the thing is I HAVE to wear this so I can get used to it. I have to get used to this screwy perspective until it rights itself. My brain isn’t giving me the co-operation I desperately need right now.

This feels about the same when I first met and broke up with my ex. Disorienting, dizzy, yet it’ll right itself given time.

Gah. I just spoiled my own mood for today (which is pretty dumb but hey, you only live once to screw yourself over and over again), so here’s another random strip from Basic Instructions:

Mixed a second song. This one… should reflect what I’m going through. It’s pretty…. urrmm… edgy, though not by much. Click to download. Or right click and pick save target as if that doesn’t work.

I really like this one. There’s a whole mix of impressions and emotions in there.

Still feeling sucky

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Yeah, well, things have gotten worse (or better, depending on what point of view you have) in a more personal level for me, so I’m once again going to ignore it and post this funny number:

Oh randomness! Btw, as of this post, I already sold off my car. And I don’t regret it one bit. I’m turning over a new page in my life.

Depressed…BLUHHHH

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Screw it. I’m not going to blog about feeling depressed. So instead I’m posting an old artwork:

Might as well work on something new since I’m on vacation…. might help me get my head off my depression.

Wicked

An interlude before I do what I was supposed to do:

CLICK HERE FOR SOME DOCTOR ACTION!

I’m in a sick and wicked mood. The comic is originally from www.lucid-tv.com .Based on the dubious name, most offices block this url for no apparent good reason. Shame really.

This strip is one of my favourites. Tells you what I do when I’m bored…. >.>

Another one, incidentally this one fits the friendster cell size:

Ok, I’ll stop now. Two sick strips in one entry is enough to drive me loopy.

Ack. Had a rather icky day today, suddenly feeling sick and also feeling like a headless flaming running…. chicken… can have adverse effects on your musical skills. For some reason all my riffs today degenerated into the blues. What’s worse is that I rather enjoyed listening to blues songs recently (disturbing, really).

However, I definitely recommend the blues for any beginner/too fcuked up with an electric guitar. Why? Because it’s eaaaasy. Here’s a number of reason why blues is easy:

  • A typical song consist of ONLY 3 notes. 4-6 if you’re feeling adventurous.
  • A typical song ONLY uses TWO strings (my favourite number). And those two strings are adjacent.
  • No matter how bad you play it, as long as the notes are right next to each other, it’ll SOUND like the
    blues.

So yeah. freaky stuff ey?

*Sigh*…. really is a sucky day today. Can’t wait to upgrade my pickup when my pay hits my account. That should put me indisposed of my guitar for a week but I’ll be back in my hometown for that amount of days anyway, so, no biggie.

Next update will feature a cool swedish song about an irc bot…… really….. tis swedish. I’ll even put the translated lyrics…. swedish…. ha ha…. The song’s been up for a while (the music video is hilarious) and it grows on you. There’s also a song about DoTA there somewhere….

My World

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

People who know me know I’m weird. But for people who don’t know much about the world I live in to get away from this one, here’s a few links to enlighten you:

Legend of the Five Rings
A collectible card game about samurais and japanic stuff. Very complex, the game for the big boys.

Warmachine
A miniatures game. I think I had a little bit too much money and nothing to do with it when I started this.

Monsters Game
An online inbrowser game about vampires vs werewolves. I was bored (warning: it’s a bite link).

Eve Online
Best damn online game on the planet. Not for the faint-hearted.

Lucid TV
Webcomic about sarcastic doctors. Not for all ages.

Questionable Content
Another webcomic. Very cute, about love, life and indie rock.

Giant in the Playground
RPG site with a very favourite webcomic of mine: Order of the Stick. For RPG buffs.

Yeah….. I’m bored as heck…..

Rift of Cultures

Monday, March 19th, 2007

My first song! Okay, i didn’t play any of it, I just picked clips from Garage Band and mix it. But still, the mix is original and… urmmm…. very mixy (is that even a word?) Anyway:

Rift of Cultures

A mix of mid-eastern, funk and synthesizers! The id3 even has my name on it (i think, can’t remember). It’s a minute and a half, quite long for me. I don’t know how them people can stand writing and mixing 4 minute songs….

My way or no way

Discovery time!

I just got my blonde coloured Telecaster today. And let me tell you, tis’ a sweet little thing. My only fret is that it’s China made and not Indonesian, but I’m not complaining much. At least I have my guitar. Playing it is exactly as I imagined. Hard. See, I haven’t played or even the guitar extensively for a LONG time and finally getting the guitar of my dreams and playing it on meager skills seem… wrong.

So after 30 minutes of playing it with the same old chords I finally set it aside in disgust.

Just because I have the guitar of my dreams doesn’t mean I’m going to be playing like a rock star instinctively. But something about it calls to me. But no, if I can’t play it right, might as well not, it’ll be an insult to it.

Boy that was stupid.

See, here’s where the discovery come in. After putting it down I got to my iPod and listened to my newly imported Beatles playlist (which I had totally forgotten that I replaced my previous playlist with). Then after hearing some of the classics, something occurred to me. My gosh I’ve been hearing the same old chords over and over again in 20+ songs! Yet they sound different everytime.

Lesson 1: Modify what you already know. Bitching about new discovery while ignoring what you know won’t get you anywhere.

So I really got in the mood to play again, but I’m still a bit miffed with myself. So I fired up the macbook (which is what I’m typing this with) and watch some music videos that I’ve downloaded. Then another hammer of inspiration struck. I see these people…. they’re not playing any chords that I know of on their guitar. Hell, even the way they hold it sometimes is blatantly wrong. Yet how could they produce such cool sounds?

So back to the Tele I go, firing up my amp again. Then I said “screw proper chords” and started fingering my fretboard by random. And lo and behold, I discovered that two adjacent strings on any frets produce cool sounding chords. TWO strings! Wow. By the time you know it, I’m finally rocking on my guitar to some unknown tunes but they sound pretty pleasant to the ears. Nothing in the chord book ever said anything about two string chords.

Lesson 2: There’s 2 ways to do spectacular things; YOUR way or NO way.

Simply put, If I haven’t fooled around with the guitar after watching those music videos, I never would’ve thought of playing with two strings to get a chord alone (they sound fantastic on distort). Not only some obscure chords can I play now, but a lot more possibilities have sprung up.

Needless to say, I’m much more confident about doing my research now. These two lessons have unlocked that blockade that’s been hounding me for weeks. I think I can finally move forward.

Lesson 3: If at first you don’t succeed, try something different.

p/s: Cornflakes and canned mocha coffee is surprisingly good.

diTuned (dame dame dame ningen)

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

I’ve been hit by a stroke of…. eccentricity lately (translation: feeling a bit crazy). One of it is completely detuning my iPod from a glorious 400++ songs to a mere 167. And my latest playlist is completely made of Beatles songs. I don’t know what hit me. Among other weird occurences is experimenting to be a hikikomori for the past couple of days or so (this is last week methinks). A hikky (short derog of hikikomori) is basically a guy that spends his time in his room, not venturing out and not interacting with people at ALL (phone and sms messages don’t count). I embody all that is being a hikomori, not going out, staying indoors, watching anime, enjoying the sporadic wireless internet connection and play games. Food? Why, instant noodles of course!

But then again I was severely feverish and having my worst bouts of migraine during those couple of days, so yeah. Let me tell you, nothing is being much more depressing and self destructive than being a hikky. Sick or not, it’s not an excuse to stay indoors indefinitely. My first day in sunshine after being utterly sick (and miserable) was like a newly cured vampire. Strong ambient light hurt my eyes.

Gosh that was miserably unhealthy. Note to self: NEVER experiment being a hikky AGAIN.
